The latest news on the global waste paper recycling markets

The importance of recycling has become a key force for the majority of businesses and individuals in the UK, and we now collect and recycle far more waste paper than is needed by our own paper mills. This is partly due to the decline in the number of UK mills - like many UK manufacturing industries, British paper mills have suffered from cheaper competition from abroad. Only a handful of world-class paper mills still operate in the UK and we now export much of our recycled waste paper.

During the last quarter of 2008 we experienced a shift in the global waste paper recycling market. Demand from Asia for recycled waste paper to manufacture new paper and board has drastically reduced as production declined due to fears of a global recession. This downturn has resulted in a collapse in demand for recycled waste paper. However, this is beginning to be counter-balanced as a slow, but increasing, requirement for recycled waste paper from China and India is forecast to grow. To ensure our customers reap the benefits of this shift in the future, we are now sending a high proportion of recycled waste to China and India.

World prices fluctuate but our service levels remain high

The Waste Paper Company and The TGM Environmental group has over 100 years collective experience in the collection and recycling of waste paper, plastics and metals. As markets shift, prices fluctuate. Our priority is to offer a competitive service and ensure that we keep our customers’ material reliably collected and recycled to avoid premises becoming over-run with uncollected waste paper, which can create a health and safety hazard and compromise efficiency.

We never forget our customers have a choice - we constantly monitor the waste paper recycling markets across the world to make certain we remain competitive, whilst promoting higher standards throughout the industry.
