Print company with high ‘green credentials’ join us
In November 2008 Reading-based print company Lamport Gilbert Limited appointed The Waste Paper Company Limited to collect and recycle all its paper waste. The company also plans to introduce a new air-fed waste extraction system together with an external compactor skip and bin lift, which will make it much easier to take waste out of the factory. The compactor system reduces the volume of waste dramatically, resulting in far fewer trips to remove the waste paper from site, which in turns reduces transport costs and improves the company’s environmental footprint.
Lamport Gilbert is a litho printer that has been producing point-of-sale, marketing and publicity materials for businesses throughout the UK for over 100 years. The company is ISO 14001 accredited and has an excellent track record in implementing a thorough recycling and environmentally aware programme that encompasses the entire business. Only paper from accredited paper merchants in the UK that comes from sustainable and managed sources with full FSC accreditation is purchased, whilst all inks used in the printing process are vegetable based soya inks, and all coatings are aqueous. The company also ensure energy use is minimised, that all aluminium plates are recycled, and recover and recycle other waste material whenever practical. As a result Lamport Gilbert has made an astonishing 62% reduction in material sent to landfill. The company’s next step includes working towards a carbon-neutral print operation.
As Simon Razzell from The Waste Paper Company Limited said “Lamport Gilbert is well established and is an excellent example of how a business can succeed and flourish, whilst undertaking and promoting high environmental standards”.
